MARTINSBURG - Twenty-four local nonprofit organizations received grants from Ecolab Inc. Thursday at the 2010 Community Relations Ceremony in amounts ranging from $500 to $2,500.

Ecolab is a leading global developer of "premium cleaning, sanitizing and maintenance products and services for hospitality, institutional and industrial markets," and it has a Berkeley County location, officials said. Each year, the Ecolab Foundation reserves 1.2 percent of its U.S. pretax earnings to donate toward domestic charitable organizations. It also provides product donations in cases of natural disasters.

Thursday's event began with a turkey luncheon followed by the grants award ceremony, where Ecolab human resources representative Katrina Rosario presented the grants.

The total amount of grant money awarded to Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan County organizations was $36,000.

"It was great to see how the organizations were so appreciative and so grateful to receive the award," Rosario said. "Our Ecolab associates enjoy serving the community through supporting food drives, Toys for Tots and volunteering. There is a strong need in our community, and we are so elated that we can be a part of building a greater community."
